Piano Lessons in Winchester

Teaching
I teach piano in a relaxed and fun way, listening to what you want to achieve, and working with you to reach your potential. Learning to play the piano can be difficult, and takes time and commitment; so it’s important to enjoy the learning process.

Whether you are starting from scratch, or you’ve already started your journey as a pianist, it’s important to understand why you want to play the piano in the first place.

You may want to build a repertoire of your favourite pieces for you own pleasure, you may want to follow the Associated Board grades, or you may even aspire to playing on stage. There isn’t one correct way of doing all of these things - and likewise, not everybody learns in the same way. For this reason I use a variety of teaching methods and introduce you to as many styles and genres of music as possible, to see what works for you.

I travel around Winchester teaching people in their own homes, on their own pianos. I also have space to teach at my own home in Weeke, just to the north of the city, with plenty of free parking. Remote online lessons using Zoom are now also an option.

Lesson Fees are £22 per 30 minute lesson at my home or online, or £25 per 30 minute lessons if I travel to you. I am happy to arrange longer lessons for the more advanced student if required.

I have a very busy schedule with limited availability at the moment, but I do operate a waiting list, so please do get in touch.

Exams
I am happy and experienced in taking you through your graded exams with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Lessons for Adults
“I wish I’d learnt to play the piano when I was young”

“I wish I hadn’t stopped piano lessons when I did”
Sound familiar? It’s never too late… over 40% of my students are adults who have either started from the very beginning with me, or who have rediscovered the joy of playing the piano. It is true that younger minds find it easier to learn, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make up for it in enthusiasm and practice!

GCSE preparation and recording
I can help you polish your piece for solo performance, and I often play piano duets with students as part of the ensemble assessment. Using portable recording equipment, I can provide a high quality mp3 recording of your performance or composition which can be emailed direct to you, to forward to your teacher.
